Raised on rugby and passion for his hometown, Parma-born centre Damiano Mazza has extended his contract with Zebre Parma until 2028. The 25-year-old is a key confirmation for head coach Massimo Brunello and sporting director George Biagi, strengthening the core of the Parma-based United Rugby Championship side.
Club president Gianni Fava expressed the franchise’s pride in securing one of its own:
“Damiano is a local talent who has a deep bond with our club,” said Fava. “Beyond his athletic and technical qualities, he’s an example and a role model for young players in Emilia. His development has been outstanding, and we’re confident he can continue to give so much to the team, both on and off the field.”
For Mazza, the renewal is about pride and belonging:
“It’s an honour to stay here,” Mazza said, “because I get to wear the colours of my city — a team that represents Italy on the international stage. We’re building something special, and there’s an incredible atmosphere within the group. We all feel part of a big adventure, and everyone is ready to give their best for each other.”
Born in Montecchio Emilia, Mazza joined Zebre Parma in May 2022 ahead of the 2022–23 United Rugby Championship season, making his debut in Round 4 against the Stormers. A former Italy U20 international in 2018 and 2019, he earned selection for Italy A in 2023 for an uncapped test against Romania, and later that year for the Italy U23 side against the IRFU Combined Academies. In June 2025, he was called up by head coach Gonzalo Quesada to join the Italy senior squad for the Tour of Namibia and South Africa.
